On August 19, 1994, the first message was posted to ProMED-mail. It went to 40 subscribers in 7 countries. Today's posts are read by tens of thousands of viewers in more than 185 countries.
Beginning in 1996, ProMED-mail has traditionally celebrated its anniversary by presenting the ProMED-mail AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN OUTBREAK REPORTING ON THE INTERNET.
