Epidemic: cholera kills 28 people in the North
----------------------------------------------
Cholera has wreaked havoc in the North Region [of Cameroon]. 
Information provided by the Regional Public Health delegate, Dr 
Abdoulaye Yougouda, relayed by the government daily, the Cameroon 
Tribune, in its 15 Oct 2009 , indicated that 161 cholera cases and 28 
deaths have been identified as of 14 Oct 2009.

The chief of the Oulo Mayo (Mayo Louti) District Health [Unit], Dr. 
Francis Azewo said that the epidemic has been ongoing in the 
jurisdiction area for almost a month. Samples were taken in the 
Doumou Health Area where there have been 63 cases including 11 deaths 
reported. In the Guider Health District, 65 cases including 8 deaths 
have been reported as of 14 Oct 2009. According to Abdoulaye Rapaya, 
the director of the Bipemi Health District Office, 11 cases have been 
identified, including 2 deaths. The epidemic is currently spreading 
in the Urban Garoua Health District, where cases have been reported. 
The Regional Public Health Delegate was nonetheless reassuring that 
the situation is under control.

[There is continuous reporting of cholera in Cameroon's North Region. 
The number of casualties increasing at every stage. The regional 
health authority is however up beat reassuring the people that the 
situation is under control. More needs to be done to control this 
situation and authorities should be on top of things more than the 
reassurances.
